Don’t let the Senate put special interests ahead of tribes
Every year oil and gas companies waste more than $100 million-worth of natural on tribal lands through deliberately flaring and venting methane into our air.
This wasteful practice costs tribes millions of dollars each year in royalty payments that should be going towards our schools, roads, and bridges. Instead, that revenue is literally going up in flames.
In November 2016, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management released a new rule aimed at reducing natural gas waste on public and tribal lands. The rule helps curb waste of natural resources, reduce harmful methane emissions, and provides a fair return on public resources for taxpayers, tribes and states.
The House voted in February to overturn the rule; the Senate will vote soon. They need to know that our public and tribal lands are no place for reckless waste.
